Four bridesmaids killed after hen party limousine is destroyed by hit- and-run drunk driver

Tragedy: The crushed remains of the limousine which the bridesmaids were travelling in

The bride has been left in a critical condition after the horror smash that left four women in their 20s dead.

Four bridesmaids were killed and seven other people were seriously injured when a hen party's limousine was destroyed by a hit-and-run drunk driver.
The group, who were on a wineries tour, had just left a vineyard when a red pick up truck ploughed into the side of their vehicle at 5.30pm on Saturday in New York’s wine region in Long Island.
The girl’s limo had been making a u-turn when the collision
happened.
"The pickup truck was halfway through the limo," said witness Lynne Lulfs.
"We saw bodies hanging out of the left side of the car. They looked like young girls. It was just arms, and heads and hair."
The bride and another member of the hen party were left in a critical condition, while the limo driver, three other occupants and the Dodge truck driver were also hurt.
Three of the group died at the scene and the fourth died after being taken to the hospital. All of the dead women were aged 24 or 25.

Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley said: “He [the pickup driver] hit the brakes right before and he broadsided the limo right on the passenger side “This is one of the worst accidents I've ever seen.
“We don’t even have half of the people identified because they went to three different hospitals. We’re trying to sort out all the details.”
He named the truck driver as Steve Romeo of Southold who they arrested nearby after he initially ran from the scene when officers arrived.
He has since been charged with driving while intoxicated. Investigators were looking into the possibility the limo was making an illegal u-turn at the time of the accident.
The girls had hired a limo so they could drink without fear of being too drunk to drive as they travelled among several vineyards.
