10 Iconic Wedding Dresses

Back in 1770, Marie Antoinette was married at age 14, adorned with diamonds and pearls, to her 15 year old suitor. After centuries of rivalry, France and Austria cemented their alliance by deciding to wed the children of the respective diplomats. The actual wedding dress has not been preserved but here’s an example of an era dress, as well as how it was imagined in the movie with Kirsten Dunst.

In 1937, Wallis Simpson, an American socialite, became the Duchess of Windsor when she married Edward VIII. She had been married twice before (which is not acceptable in the royal family) so Edward chose to renounce his throne in the British monarchy in order to marry her. They remained married until his death 35 years later.

In addition to having an incredible romance with a Duke, Wallis’s dress was regarded as one of the most photographed and copied dresses at the time.

Queen Elizabeth II married in 1947 (shortly after WWII ended) and had to use ration cards to buy the materials for her gorgeous gown.

Princess Diana’s larger-than-life Victorian-inspired dress from 1981 is reminiscent of decadent royal dresses of the past.

Kate Middleton’s 2011 wedding gown is a bit more modern and sleek… and came with a $400K price tag.

Another bride of infamously many weddings is Elizabeth Taylor. Her first wedding was in 1950 at age 18, and her first gown is easily the most classic and beautiful. She went on to marry seven additional times to six additional men.

Here is the gown from Elizabeth Taylor’s fourth wedding in 1959. She wore green instead of the traditional white.

Perhaps Solange Knowles was channeling her inner Mis Farrow when she married Alan Ferguson in 2014. They arrived on bicycles, with Solange sporting a jumpsuit with an attached cape.

Audrey Hepburn was known for her beauty and style, despite also being a dedicated humanitarian. Her wedding dress serves as proof of the former, embodying the style of the ’50s.

Before she became Jackie O, Jacqueline Kennedy wore a full-skirted dress when she married JFK in 1953. She completed her look with white gloves and a full veil.

10 celebrities who totally transformed between childhood and adulthood

Once upon a time these famous faces looked so different that you wouldn't even recognise them The faces of such stars as Kim Kardashian and David Beckham are known all over the globe... now.
But some celebs once looked so different in their younger years that you'd struggle to recognise them.
Even the ones who grew up in the spotlight - like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake - have completely transformed since their childhoods.
Therefore we think it's only right to take a walk down memory lane and check out 10 celebrities who have changed in a big way.

1) Kim Kardashian

Before she was Mrs Kanye West
Who better to start with than the world's most famous woman, Kim Kardashian?
The reality star didn't shoot to stardom until landing her own show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, in 2007 (which was also the year her sex tape with former boyfriend Ray J was leaked).
Before then she was just a young, innocent girl - without long flowing hair and figure-hugging clothes - who had dreams of being famous.
Last year a video surfaced of Kim proclaiming herself to be the 'dopest of the ropest' and showing that while her appearance may have changed, her personality hasn't.

2) David Beckham

Becks has always loved football
David Beckham's had so many hairstyles that we've completely given up keeping track.
But does anybody remember the spiky product-free look that he once rocked in 1987?
A picture from a soccer trip to Barcelona shows that while David was always into football, he wasn't always into messing with his mane.
Still, he's as lovable as ever on the snap.

3) Myleene Klass

Myleene is proud of her past
Earlier this year Myleene Klass had a bit of a sort out and ended up stumbling across a retro photo .
It featured the radio presenter when she was merely a school girl who wore Deirdre Barlow-like glasses.
Fashionable? No. Cute? Yes.
The mum-of-two proudly shared the picture with her fans, writing: "Having a clear up, I was such a dude. Mini Myleene."

4) Robert Pattinson

Before he was Edward Cullen
When most people think of the Harry Potter films they think of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
But Robert Pattison was also a member of the cast in both 2005 and 2007.
R-Patz was just a teenager during filming and was certainly lacking the hunky star quality that made women swoon during Twilight.
Obviously that would all change when he was cast as vampire Edward Cullen several years later.

5) Emily Ratajkowski

A walk down memory lane
Emily Ratajkowski is still quite new to the showbiz scene, having only shot into the limelight after starring in Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines music video in 2013.
So really we've probably still got quite a lot to learn about the brunette beauty.
Emily recently gave her fans a little look into her past when she shared a throwback picture on Instagram .
Oh those pigtails!

6) Justin Timberlake

Before he invested in hair straighteners
In April, Justin Timberlake became a daddy for the first time.
Which is quite strange considering that the Cry Me A River hitmaker grew up in front of our eyes.
Before his romance with Jessica Biel , his ground-breaking Justified album and his days in NSYNC, Justin was a member of the Mickey Mouse Club.
These days he's got much more control over his hair.

7) Britney Spears

There is a big difference
Let's not forget Britney Spears too.
Before she was dancing around in a school uniform, Britney was a fresh-faced youngster with some incredible music talent.
Like Justin, she melted hearts during her appearances on the Mickey Mouse Club.

9) Rita Ora

She's always had the X Factor
Rita Ora's childhood pictures show that she's always enjoyed pushing the boundaries of fashion.
An old school snap shared by the singer in 2014 featured her wearing a baggy red dress and looking rather happy about it .
Perhaps most astonishingly, Rita hasn't always rocked her trademark platinum hair and was once a brunette.
Another equally adorable picture from times gone by show Reets smiling widely and ready for success.

8) Leonardo DiCaprio

Now one of Hollywood's hottest
Leonardo DiCaprio has always been the King of Cool.
Even his flowing blonde locks and curtain fringe was on trend once upon a time.
Little Leo's adorable face helped him make waves in Tinsel Town from an early age before eventually landing the role of Jack in Titanic.

10) Frankie Bridge

Long before The Saturdays started
Most people will vaguely recall the S Club Juniors group who were formed in 2001.
But we reckon a lot less will actually remember that Frankie Bridge was part of the group.
Frankie was just 12-years-old when she took her place in the band and looked a lot different at the time.
Namely because she hadn't worked out how much short hair works for her.

Friday's gossip round-up

Martinez to Terry: Stop tapping up Stones
Roberto Martinez has told John Terry to butt out of Everton’s business... and stop tapping up John Stones. The Blues boss is angry at what he sees as an “illegal” approach from the Chelsea skipper ,following the London club’s two bids for Stones.
Terry pointedly suggested this week the Goodison centre- back would be his perfect replacement and a great signing for Chelsea .
Martinez said: “You know that is illegal, the rules don’t allow you to comment on players that are registered at other clubs in that open manner, that is disappointing.
“You know, I know. We all know there are rules and regulations and it is something we don’t want to see when other clubs speak about your players. It is wrong and it shouldn’t happen.
“As clubs we have a good understanding of where we are and I don’t think it is something to get the managers involved in.”

Arsenal set aside 65M for Benzema raid

Arsène Wenger hasn’t forgotten about Karim Benzema. The French manager wants to bring the striker to Arsenal and has put aside 65 million euros to lure Benzema to London, although Wenger himself is fully aware of how difficult such an operation would be.
Arsenal are looking to add a top level striker and a centre-back to the squad before the season starts and Benzema is a priority. The club’s technical department are studying other options but until they have used up every resource to land the Madrid striker, other candidates will remain secondary to Wenger’s plans.
Publicly, the manager has been careful to divert the attention away from the issue. “There are a thousand possibilities that he will continue at Real Madrid”, Wenger said last week, paraphrasing declarations made by the player’s agent.
Since Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie left, Wenger has been without an out and out centre-forward. Last season Alexis Sánchez contributed 16 goals, deployed either on the wing or as a false No.9 alongside Olivier Giroud, who scored less (14 in 27 outings last term) and has had run-ins with the boss, including one over a well-publicized incident involved a French model at the team hotel
But the operation to land Benzema is full of complications. He renewed his contract until 2019 with Madrid just over a year ago and as it stands, he is the team’s first choice striker, although Benítez has experimented this summer with Jesé and Cristiano playing in a more central position in an attempt to have an alternative to the ‘BBC’ attacking trio.
During the recent tours of Australia and China, Benzema offered two contrasting sides to his game – he scored a sensational volley against Manchester City in Melbourne but was largely absent in the friendly against AC Milan in Shanghai. Benítez is also concerned that the player is struggling to apply the pressure which he is demanding from the whole team to make his 4-2-3-1 set-up function as he intends.

Buhari celebrates Fr Mbaka as he celebrates 20 years of priesthood

President Buhari today showered kind words on controversial cleric, Fr. Ejike Mbaka, spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu who celebrated 20 years of priesthood today July 29th. In a statement signed by presidential media aide, Shehu Garba, President Buhari described the cleric as a man who dares to speak the truth to anyone in power.
“Mbaka is a great priest who is not afraid to speak truth, even at the cost of his own life or being hated by those in power. He rose to the occasion to add his voice in support of good governance and identify with ordinary Nigerians in the face of despair and uncertain future. Though honest opinions attract hostility from leaders detached from reality, history would be kind to Father Mbaka for courageously speaking truth to power, even at great risks.” he said

Dad takes a photo of himself with his son for 26 years (with a surprise at the end

Parents often say that children grow up in the blink of an eye.
Luckily this dad thought of an adorable way to document his son growing from a little boy into a strapping young man that takes at least 26 blinks to get through.
Starting in 1987 when the boy was a wide-eyed baby, the dad took one black-and-white photo each year with his
offspring.
The shirtless theme continued throughout the years as the boy gets taller and taller while the dad progressive through the stages of middle-age (including getting his very own ‘ dadbod ‘ – yay!).

Dancers photographed in their own homes show how committed they are to the cause

This series of photos captures dancers in a whole new light.
David Perkins has photographed dancers for almost ten years, but in his new series Home Stage he decided to go ‘back to basics’ and look at dancers in their own homes.
Everyday tasks look anything but basic as the dancers bring a beauty to everything from making the bed to doing homework.
Dance is rarely just a career – for most it is a life long passion and this this set of stunning photos reveals just how committed they are to the cause.
Perkins said: ‘After a while, I came up with a concept to photograph dancers in their own homes. Usually when people photographs dancers they are in wide open, expansive places. In parks, in front of monuments, in the city streets, even in the forest. But I have never seen photographers photographed at home, in their small private confines.’
