THE Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has faulted the claims in some quarters that the church is solely responsible for the incessant traffic gridlock on the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway, saying it is caused by bad roads.
The Head of Public Relations Unit of RCCG, Pastor Segun Adegbiji, made this statement at a press conference to announce the 63rd yearly convention of the RCCG, which is billed to take place from August 3 to August 9,with the theme ‘The All Sufficient God’.
He noted that the church’s activities have rather led them to preventing traffic on the road instead of the claim that they are responsible.
According to him: “Our activities do not take place by the road. In fact, the new arena where the forthcoming convention will be held is on Simawa Road and the outgoing arena, which is far into the village. It has a capacity of 12 million people and as much as possible, we want to avoid using the expressway for our transportation.”
Pastor Adegbiji also noted that residents and indigenes of Mowe/ Ibafo had written to the church to provide electricity for the community.
“They think we are government and if we can afford it, we will do it. We build and repair roads all around,” he said While commenting on the legalization of gay marriage in the United State of America, he said, “as a church, we do not support it, there is nowhere in the doctrines of the church, which is the Bible that talks about same sex marriage.
Marriage is only between one man and one wife and that is where we stand.”
Speaking on the attack of its church in the North East by the Boko Haram sect, he added: “In every province in the church, part of our Corporate Social Responsibility is to assist those in the Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) and so we are working closely with our members, who might have suffered from these attacks. We are passionate about the safety of our members around Nigeria and beyond and so we will ensure that through our aids and prayers, these incessant attacks will be eradicated.”
