The 18-year-old, who is regarded as one of the finest prospects in England, is expected to be loaned back out straight away Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Fulham starlet Patrick Roberts for an undisclosed fee.
Roberts, 18, turned down a new contract at Craven Cottage to push through the deal to City, who are expected to loan
him out immediately.
The England under-19 starlet is regarded as one of the country's best prospects and will also help City boost their home grown quota.
He is the third English player to join City over the past few days, following the transfers of Raheem Sterling and Fabian
Delph from Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively.
Roberts plays as either a second striker or as a right winger.
Fulham manager Kit Symons sounded resigned to losing Roberts to City following the Cottagers' 3-1 pre-season win at Crawley on Saturday.
"It's very difficult," Symons said. "He's handed in a transfer request now, and only got one year left on his contract.
"We want to keep all our best players, and build for the future, but there comes a point where we've got to do the right thing for the football club.
"He could sign a pre-contract in January with a club and walk away for nothing, and we're mindful of that.
"(Discussions) are progressing, it's fair to say. He's in serious talks with them (City)."
