SINGAPORE — More shrubs and trees will be planted at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to draw more butterflies under a joint effort between the National Parks Board (NParks) and pulp and paper giant APRIL Group.
Three hundred shrubs were planted today (July 24) at the park’s Butterfly Habitat as part of APRIL Group’s five-year, S$100,000 sponsorship. Later this year, 250 trees will be planted.
Senior Minister of State for Transport and Finance Josephine Teo, who is Member of Parliament in Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency, was at the event today and said: "It is important to promote biodiversity and a good living environment for all of us to enjoy."
The Butterfly Habitat has drawn 25 butterfly species so far and is set to attract more as it expands, said the NParks.
Students from local schools and youths from the region here for the ASEAN Power Shift 2015 conference were also at the event today. Said a youth delegate from Indonesia, Mr Muhamad Marwan, 23,: "This is a great opportunity for me to learn about Singapore's environment and contribute to it as well."
