The Police in Abuja on Wednesday, paraded 10 armed robbery suspects after foiling a robbery attempt in Nyanya area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police in Abuja, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, said that acting on a tip off, the police raided the hideout of the robbers at Masaka in Nasarawa State.
He said that the suspects were about to unleash terror on the residents of some areas within Nyanya.
“ The Nyanya Police Division promptly swung into action and raided the hideout of the hoodlums at Masaka, where they also have their armoury.
“Six suspects have so far been arrested. They have confessed to the crime and will soon be arraigned in court,’’ he said.
He said that items recovered from them include one pump action, one AK 47, one locally fabricated AK 47.
Others are two English barretta pistol, magazine with 98 live ammunitions, AK47 ammunition and 22 barretta pistol ammunitions.
Similarly, the Police also paraded four robbery suspects arrested after a shootout at Ungwade in Jikwoyi area of
FCT.
Wilson said that the suspects were over powered after engaging members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in a shootout.
“After a fierce gun duel with the hoodlums, one of the robbers who sustained severe bullet wounds as a result of the gallantry fight put forth by the Police operatives died while being conveyed to hospital for treatment.
“Other members of the gang fled the scene with bullet wounds following a hot chase by the operatives,’’ he said.
He stressed that efforts had been intensified to track down the hoodlums who were on the run.
Inalegwu said that items recovered from them are one locally made pistol, AK-47 magazine with 10 live ammunitions, 21 empty shells, wrist watches and one Four- runner jeep.
He said that as part of the renewed campaigned against crime, the command has arrested three notorious “one chance’’ robbery syndicates operating at different parts of the FCT.
According to him, they were intercepted and arrested in Life Camp, Dutse Alhaji and Kubwa axis respectively.
He said that the suspects had all confessed to the crime and would soon be arraigned in court.
