SINGAPORE — Indonesian national Nasiruddin has been sentenced today (July 21) to 30 months’ imprisonment for match fixing activities at the 28th Southeast Asian Games.
Nasiruddin was charged for engaging in conspiracy with two others, including a Singaporean, to give gratification of $15,000 to Orlando Marques Henriques Mendes – a technical director of the Timor Leste Football Association – to lose the match against Malaysia.
Nasiruddin was also charged for offering bribes to members of Timor Leste football team to lose the match.
In a press release today, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau said it will not hesitate to take action against any party involved in match fixing related activities as Singapore adopts a zero tolerance approach towards corruption, and match fixing of any form is not condoned.
The Bureau works with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), and other agencies to keep the local soccer scene clean, it added.
